Higher interest rates for imported cars I feel is a lil absurd. I looked at the news and the next thing I said was, "Saving Proton's @$$ again!" Look below:
Hire purchase interest rates for new non-national cars (such as Toyota and Nissan) have increased to 3.25% for loan tenures of five years and below, 3.4% for six to seven years and 3.5% for eight- to nine-year loans.
Previous hire purchase interest rates were in the range of 2.4% to 2.5%.
But in the case of new national cars, the opposite prevails. Maybank which used to offer a flat rate of 3.6% for loans up to nine years for Perodua cars and 3.75% for Proton cars, is now offering slightly lower rates. For loans of five years and below the rate is 3.5%, six to seven years (3.65%) and for eight to nine years (3.75%).

This is done I feel is to help cover Proton and Perodua. I have no worries for Perodua. They produce great cars and the right reasonable price. No complains about how the car feels after purchase and after services and after years. My Kenari feels good after 3 years of driving it. My family Kancil has been with the family for over 10 years now and it still feels as good till today.
I used to have 2 Proton Iswara Hatchback. Yes I said two. But it was sold off quite quickly for the reason it didn't feel safe to be in one with all the multiple squeak and engine failed once or twice with cold weather. But performance wise it was quite good. I was able to smoke a modified Proton Wira (or maybe just an exhaust change) from Jelutong to Yeap Chor Yee. Smoked him off when it was the straight in front USM. But it came with a price. Accelerator when I am going back didn't really respond as well as it was when I step on the throttle on my route back.
Back to the matter at hand, the government should give Proton and Perodua to prove their worth. Give them a run for their money. The only few good cars that would give Proton a chance would be the Waja and the R3 Neo. The Satria GT-I would be another thing people believe Proton for.
The other joke I heard was Proton R&D is looking into Turbocharging a diesel. Then finally introducing the CPS (Cam Profile Switching) into their car. The Proton that I would wanna drive now would be the R3 Neo and a CPS Waja.
But on top of that I would like to get my hands on a Red EG6 (B16C) on a straight route or a clear twisting roads to Cameron Highlands. Nothing beats the scream of the VTEC after 5800 RPM. Turbo charged that, Blow-Off and the VTEC screaming. I am in Cloud Nine!
Sorry switched off for a moment. Some may not understand what I just said. But with the interest rate could just kill all of that.
Anyone up for buying a R34 with Cash?
