As some may have heard of this, Police are now making random stops to car owners to check their cars for pirated copies of Audio CD or DVD or VCD. 1 copy found would be fined, as heard RM400. So if u have 10 copies it would be about RM4000.
Here is my reply to this rip off!
I am a music lover. Sure maybe not much of Hip Hop or Mainstream music. But here is my point, an original CD easily would cost RM 29.90 per copy. Those are also made in Malaysia ones with some words printed at the bottom saying its specially made in Malaysia. DVD would cost RM 19.90 per copy.
Entertainment has always been an expensive thing in Malaysia. Look at gadgets, Nintendo DSi would cost us roughly around RM700+, PSP around RM600+, iPhone (rip off from Maxis). Now the government is doing this to us?!
At one point if not mistaken 5 years ago when Pak Lah just started to be in charge. They said they would review the price revision for Original Copies of Entertainment Media. As promised they would complete the review and announce it in the next half a year. Then they disappointingly postponed it for another 3 months. Then another 3 months.
They came back and said, "From our review it cannot be done!" WTF!! Then I made some investigation into this matter, the cause of the problem was actually because the producers refuse to make it because they want it to be profitable as possible. Like Penang people say, "Liak Hor Tan" literal translation, "As profitable as possible!" Thus piracy becomes more erratic.
Till now there is no solution for this matter and their only solution is going to the source, us consumers. How fair is it? We consumer are being punished for something we cannot get.
As heard today we would also be punished for burnt or copied CD. OUTRAGE!!
I listen to The Used, Silverstein, From First To Last, Threat Signal, Arch Enemy, Hopesfall and Orgy to name a few. DO MALAYSIA EVER IMPORT SUCH MUSIC?! Even if they do, it would all be censored and all stuff would be deemed "Not Good For Malaysian!"
Let me ask one question, What is Good For Malaysian Then? Covering everything up with dirty politics? People in power creating their own rules and law? From what I see this is Malaysia today. Have the government sat down and thought how would a certain thing would affect how other countries see us?
Have they ever thought how Malaysian would be taken as with the current political situation in Malaysia?
Destroying other parties because they are of not the same parties. I thought political parties fights to make Malaysia a better home? Why are there dirty tactics to push all ruling power into pieces?
Back to the matter at hand, I feel it is really unfair for us to be treated like suspects for things that we were not given in the first place. We were not given free right to music. We Malaysian do not have the access to get what we want because of the price. The tax stacked on top of that music.
We as serious music lover do not mind buying original CDs. Cause we love music and supporting them would be a pleasure if they are priced right and fair. But instead we are charged RM42 for a Good ORIGINAL CD (not Made In Malaysia).
So please, Government please review the prices of original CDs and consider giving free access to any music we love without censorship. Then we together as Malaysian and Government would take Malaysia off from the list of the most pirated goods in the world.
